Josh Lucas Racing Pulls Out Very Popular Victory at Richmond Speedway

Open wheel modified racer Josh Lucas and his team recently visited Richmond Speedway and they qualified second, only one-hundredth of a second behind "the guy that wins there every week." When Lucas came in from qualifying though he had bad news for his team, "something's wrong with the transmission," he said. They drained the tranny fluid, got a magnet, and separated as much metal as they could. "We came very, very close to loading it up for the night," said K&N sponsored racer. Lucas took the car around in the pits a bit and said there was a grinding noise, but only when he started, he didn't hear it when he revved the engine. "So we decided to run the 10-lap heat." He won the heat without problems, which again put him beside "the guy that wins there every week."
The pole-sitter got the jump on Lucas at the start, but Lucas took the lead away from him on lap eight. He led for nearly three laps before a caution flag halted racing. At the restart they put the other guy ahead of Lucas, and the crowd went berserk. Lucas stopped and said something to the official, but he finally slipped back behind the pole-sitter and got on with racing. Once the green flag dropped Lucas was back around the guy within a half lap. "After several more cautions and a lot of prayers that the transmission wouldn't fail us, we came home with our second victory there," remarked Lucas. The Lucas Racing team is now two-for-two at Richmond Speedway. And in fact, the guy that wins there every week, doesn't, whenever Lucas has been there. "It was really a sweet victory, first knowing the transmission could go out at any moment, then to lead a race for over two and a half laps, and to be put back in second position, well, it was really a thrill when the checkered flag was waving for the win. Once again the fans went wild, they all knew I lead that race long enough so that I shouldn't have been put in second place." Lucas adds "Well, I don't like to gossip, but we've heard that the pole-sitter is kind of local, know what I mean? And it didn't sit too well when he has won so many in a row, and I came in there and won not once, but twice." Asked what he said to the official after the first caution "I just ask the official on the track what was the deal, I lead the race for over two laps. His response was I only do what they tell me to do. So I got really fired up, I knew I had the lead, and the tranny could go anytime, so I just made my mind up to settle this for good. When the green flag dropped, I went back around and left him. He wasn't even close this time." "The season is winding down for the year, but the crew is thinking we may need to go to this track one more time before it closes for the season. I love the track, but it is very hard to pass on, so track position is very important. We will see, maybe we can do it again." "There is also a two day show at Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, Kentucky, October 1 and 2. We like two day shows, so may take that one in.
