K&N supported professional ATV racer David Haagsma competed in his second Mountain Dew AMA ATV Motocross National appearance this season and scored a personal best finish of fourth place overall. Heavy rains saturated the track on Friday, but by the time the first pro moto rolled around on Saturday, the motocross track was in prime condition for the highly anticipated racing action.

David Haagsma began moto one from mid-pack forcing him to dig deep and work his way through the pack. “I started off somewhere around eleventh. It was pretty much chaos the first couple laps, and I just tried to slowly work my way up,” said Haagsma. One by one Haagsma was able to pick off his fellow Pro ATV racers as he made it into fifth place aboard his K&N filters equipped H&M Motorsports/Maxxis backed Honda. After using up valuable time and energy working his way through the pack, the top four leaders were too far out front for Haagsma to mount a charge, so he rode smart, and settled in for a solid fifth place finish.

Track conditions changed drastically heading into the second moto after a heavy rain shower saturated the sandy soil of Sunset Ridge MX. David Haagsma switched his set up for wet conditions on his K&N ATV filters equipped H&M Motorsports/Maxxis backed Honda. Haagsma’s Maxxis tires propelled him off the starting line to a solid start around sixth place, and he only went forward from there. After the race Haagsma commented, “My Maxxis tires hooked up great, we switched to the bigger tires for the second moto because of the mud, and they worked out perfect.”

David Haagsma was running in fifth place for the majority of moto two, steadily closing in on the fourth place racer. “With two laps left to go, I knew I needed to make a move, so I pinned it, and the second to last lap I was able to get by him,” said Haagsma, who would finish the moto in fourth place. Maxxis/H&M Motorsports’ David Haagsma’s fifth and fourth place finishes earned him his best overall finish yet, fourth place. “I was excited. I always want to compete with the top guys, but for me it was a great finish,” said Haagsma.

This confidence boosting finish will motivate K&N sponsored pro ATV racer David Haagsma as he prepares for his next Mountain Dew AMA ATV National appearance in round eight at Unadilla MX, in New Berlin, New York on July 11th.
